Ruf y Ann is made from Rufete grown in a vineyard planted in 1951 in Miranda del Castañar. The soils are decomposed granite with some slate, and the wine spends around ten months in used Burgundy barrels.
It was light and immediately fresh, with redcurrant, tart raspberry, and a slightly volatile lift. The acidity carried the wine, while the fine tannins gave it just enough structure.
This was not a particularly deep or complex red. Its appeal came from the bright fruit, low weight, and how easy it was to drink.
As the label says:
Aquellos que eran vistos bailando eran considerados locos por quienes no podían escuchar la música.
