Mille Lieux brings together 13 Alsatian grape varieties, fermented and aged on their lees in old barrels. With that many varieties in the blend, we expected the wine to feel busier than it did.
The nose moved between citrus, white flowers, herbs, and ripe orchard fruit. On the palate it was broad but fresh, with enough acidity to keep the richer fruit in place.
We drank it with Comté and goat cheese. It had enough weight for the Comté, but enough freshness for the goat cheese. It did not keep changing dramatically in the glass; the interest came from how well everything held together.
