Nossa Tola is made from Bical grown in a south-facing vineyard in Bairrada, on limestone soils. Some of the vines are over 60 years old and the parcel is farmed biodynamically. The 2023 spent 12 months on its fine lees, followed by four months in stainless steel.
The acidity was the first thing to register: high, mouth-watering, and almost chalky. The nose was more delicate, with apple and pear rather than overt perfume. It was a mineral, restrained wine, with very little excess anywhere.
This was a wine for the table, particularly shellfish. It was already very easy to drink, but still young. The balance and complexity should become clearer in bottle.
There is plenty of life ahead of it.
