La Bruja 2023 is 100% Garnacha from high-altitude vineyards in Cebreros, on sandy granite and silt. The plots were fermented separately with indigenous yeast, followed by eight months in large oak foudres.
The colour was open, with raspberry at the front of the nose, alongside a very elegant floral note and a touch of red Sichuan pepper. The palate was broader and more intense than the colour suggested. At 14%, it had real weight, but the alcohol never sat apart from the rest of the wine.
Under the fruit was something stony, giving it shape and restraint. The wine felt very balanced: generous but contained.
We drank it with arancini and pizza. The acidity kept the fuller body moving, and the two made complete sense with the food.
